I have too many devices linking to my router, causing it to slow down. Can you tell me how to configure two routers so the primary one isn’t overwhelmed?

Only one router can be linked to your ISP. You may position a second router in front of the first, but all its data will still pass through the initial router before reaching the internet. If the second router is too slow, it's better to swap it for a quicker model (if supported by your provider) instead of adding another one.

You believed using two routers could distribute the load evenly. The ISP doesn’t allow changing routers, but enabling bridge mode on your ISP router might achieve a similar outcome.

Bridge mode works only if supported, simply sending all data to the other router for processing and routing. Upgrading to a more powerful device can help, as ASUS produces strong routers with solid software. Start by enabling Quality of Service (QoS) to check for improvements, and consider restricting bandwidth per device if available. Sharing passwords frequently may require activating a MAC whitelist—most routers support this feature.

The problem seems to lie elsewhere, not with the router itself. If many users are streaming or watching videos simultaneously, that’s the main cause. Too many connections can slow things down, even with a strong internet connection. Upgrading the internet plan won’t fix the issue either. Adding another router won’t solve it.
