Yes, you can achieve this with freeNAS instead of unRAID since it’s a more affordable option.

not really, you shoud use virtualization software for it to work. There is GPU passtrough with VMWare, you could also assign peripherals this way.

You can try unRAID for a free period of about thirty days. That’s how Linus used it initially.

unRAID functions like KVM but with an additional interface. You can run KVM (free version).

I achieved this in my Linux setup, and game performance in virtual windows reached 95-96% compared to Windows installed directly on a PC.

You can deploy VMs with Debian/Ubuntu/CentOS using VirtManager instead of Unraid.

Frenas is entirely distinct from Unraid. Each has its own kernel and intended use. You can run any Linux distribution, but you’ll need to set it up yourself manually. If you’re unsure about the differences between them, you might not be able to tell.

XenServer offers a free, open-source hypervisor heavily influenced by Citrix, with strong GPU support for specific hardware configurations. Keep in mind the supported devices may vary. Note: The reasoning behind some suggestions to use unRAID remains unclear despite its availability for enterprise-grade virtualization platforms like VMware ESXi and XenCenter.
