Two Ethernet ports boosting performance by double the speed.
Two Ethernet ports boosting performance by double the speed.
Hey everyone, I just got this tiny micro server board for my setup. It has two gigabit Ethernet ports, and after checking online for hours, I figured it could work for link aggregation failover and other tasks. But I couldn’t find any info on boosting speeds beyond what’s already there. My gaming rig has two gigabit ports, so if both my PC and server are connected, could we somehow get double the bandwidth without buying more expensive gear like 10G cards?
Link aggregation combines connections without increasing total bandwidth. Data is distributed based on MAC/IP/Port, not packet size. Thus, using two gig ports together only gives one gig for a single stream, while another port can handle extra traffic, allowing two gigs in total.
