My internet router—which includes both wired and wireless connectivity with four Ethernet ports—only utilizes two of them. However, when a second computer is online and accessing the internet, I experience delays in my games. I’m considering purchasing a wireless network adapter for the secondary device, as it's primarily used for basic web browsing. Will this resolve my lag issues?

Connectivity via wireless networks typically results in lower speeds compared to wired connections. The fundamental problem often stems from the limited data capacity accessible through wireless transmission. Employing a less efficient connection method (wireless) for communication between the second computer could actually hinder performance. Please specify the manufacturer and model number of your modem and router. The router may possess a feature to give preference to data directed toward particular devices, though this functionality is usually restricted and requires administrator privileges on the modem/router to set up correctly. You can easily examine all active programs running on both computers. Background applications or processes could be consuming bandwidth. Inspect the Startup section within Task Manager on each computer; you may discover programs that aren't essential. If uncertain, disable them instead of removing them completely. And only activate one device at a time to facilitate troubleshooting if issues arise and the need for re-enabling becomes necessary.

I haven't purchased a router; both computers are linked to my internet provider’s modem (which also includes Wi-Fi, branded as Connect Box – https://www.upc.ro/internet/echipamente/connect-box/). I understand that a wireless connection might be slower, but it’s not a concern for me. My question is this: If I connect my second computer wirelessly to the modem directly, will the delays vanish? I’ve verified that no applications are consuming bandwidth on either machine. There isn't significant lag currently. The game requires rapid button presses to survive combat, so even a minor variation in potion timing can lead to defeat. I simply want to establish separate connections. The game runs without problems on a 25 Mbps connection, while I have speeds of 500 Mbps download and 25 Mbps upload, with a theoretical link speed of 1000/1000 mbs.
