Two choices: boost CPU frequency or adjust clock speed - G.skill Ripjaws
I'm working on a new setup with a Ryzen 5 3600 and was searching for top RAM. The G.Skill KIT Ripjaws V 3600mhz CL16 is sold out nearby, so I have two choices: the 3400mhz version or the 3600mhz CL18. Which would be better—or easier—would be overclocking the 3400 to 3600? Should I even try either? Thanks ahead!
3400 CL16 would be a more suitable choice, even if you're not changing the die variety.
3400C14 performs better than 3200C14, while Ryzen doesn’t gain much advantage from a 4000 series chip.
The mention of 3400 CL14 was never made. Advertising at 4000MHz doesn't require running it at that frequency. You can adjust it to a suitable range like 3600 CL14/15 or 3866 CL16/17.
The Patriot Viper Steel 4000 kit was quite affordable in my region, which is why I mentioned it.
Used Flares in this build (PC3200 - CL14) and they performed well. Tridents (PC3600 - CL16) gave better results when configured properly. The links point to compatible set options, though they’re marketed for Intel systems but work with AMD too. They’re reasonably priced and don’t require special sticks.
