This setup maximizes memory performance without any issues from mixing different stick sizes.
Incorporating a third stick doesn't change its dual-channel status, though other problems might arise. It relies on the RAM setup. Are their clock speeds and timing identical to your existing RAM? Which brands and models are they?
2x8 configuration remains dual-channel, and consumer CPUs still perform well within that setup. Adding 16GB might offer some benefits for certain tasks, though the system will likely stay in dual-channel mode. Be cautious when mixing RAM types, as it can be unpredictable; ensure both sticks match closely in specifications. The Dual Channel Asymmetric setting may no longer be available. It could still exist.
I've started using CPU-Z and confirmed it operates in dual-channel mode. All the drives are running at 2666MHz, which makes me wonder what else I can learn about the system. It seems like default settings often prioritize speed, so mixing hardware could actually hurt performance. The new RAM is Corsair Vengeance, while the older ones are still important. I don’t recall opening the case yet, but they lack a heat spreader.
