Twitch or YouTube? Choose your favorite streaming platform!
I'm facing a bit of a dilemma about how to approach my streaming setup. I have both YouTube and Twitch accounts, each suited for different purposes. The main challenge is deciding which games to stream live versus which to create YouTube videos like walkthroughs or let's plays. Personally, I prefer livestreaming because it lets me start a game instantly and go live, while recording a YouTube video requires more time for setup, commentary, and editing. It doesn’t mean I want to stop YouTube—it seems easier to build an audience there than on Twitch. However, I’m unsure which games are best for live streaming or recording. One idea I have is to record a video during the livestream and then upload a condensed version of it. This might not fit the expectations of YouTube viewers, who often expect a more polished presentation. Another concern is the technical effort involved, especially if I end up repurposing clips from my own streams. Would you be open to watching a shortened version of a livestream turned into a YouTube video? Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks ahead!
After watching Twitch, consider moving content to YouTube when it focuses a lot on Let's Plays. Enjoy playing the games you enjoy!
Certainly people have different preferences when it comes to letting plays on lengthy game titles or MMOs. Some prefer shorter clips, while others enjoy the extended content. It's important to find what you like and share your videos. Pay attention to what viewers engage with, as upload speed and timing can affect your choice. Often a concise selection of clips works better than a single long video.
Thanks for your input! It seems most suggestions point toward streaming directly on Twitch and then uploading past broadcasts to YouTube. For the second question, I’m still unsure about watching VODs from Twitch that have been uploaded to YouTube, whether they’re edited or not. My internet speed is limited to 480p, which isn’t great for quality, but I think it’s manageable. Recording locally while streaming could help—getting a higher-quality local copy at 720p or 1080p would let me upload without sacrificing too much. That might be a better option. Appreciate your thoughts!
Also, thanks for the advice from SkilledRebuilds—it makes sense to focus on longer games if the story is worth it. I’m still testing what content resonates with viewers since I don’t have clear feedback yet. I hope I can figure this out soon and make the most of it.
To address your initial concern, I suggest broadcasting the games you love most. This approach aligns better with streaming preferences rather than creating YouTube content. For side projects, try playing those games for quick highlights on YouTube. If you need recommendations on suitable titles for livestreams or videos, I’m uncertain without knowing your tastes. You could also record a video while streaming and compile a montage for upload. This method would help you reach a wider audience since shorter, engaging clips tend to attract more viewers than lengthy playthroughs. A montage can highlight the best moments, making it easier for people to discover your content. It also increases your chances of gaining traction on search results. Over time, consistent uploads can help build a solid following. Editing will be necessary, but it’s manageable. This strategy could eventually lead to more viewers and opportunities. Good luck with your channel, Slater!
Thanks for your thoughtful reply. I really value livestreaming over creating YouTube content because it feels more natural. Right now, YouTube expects high production quality, which can be a bit overwhelming. Still, I’m hoping my streams will work well for you. I don’t need game suggestions or playlists—just a way to share what I enjoy. Making a quick montage would suit YouTube nicely, as shorter clips tend to grab attention and keep viewers engaged. It seems many prefer bite-sized entertainment unless they’re following a famous creator. I’m aware that building an audience takes time, but I believe once it starts, it can grow steadily. Appreciate your kind words!
