I noticed games began running smoothly at 60 FPS even though my monitor is 165 Hz and the NVIDIA control center settings seem normal. It was a sudden change from before when this wasn’t an issue. Perhaps a Windows update caused it, but I’m not sure what triggered it. After some research and adjusting settings, I found that turning off Game DVR and Game Bar in Windows settings resolved the problem. I won’t share exact steps since there’s a lot of guidance available, but feel free to reach out if you need further assistance.

Steam previously advised Windows 10 users to turn off Xbox DVR for improved performance over a year ago.

I had previously turned it off, but I’m not sure why it was reactivated.

Updates often reset everything to its standard settings, which means most options are disabled by default. I need to turn off Cortana and make several adjustments manually each time I install Windows, which is really frustrating.
