I removed my product key from the laptop and tried it on my new desktop, but every few hours Windows prompts me to activate it again. I assumed I had done that during installation.

You can use it on any number of machines as long as they aren’t running at the same time. Regarding the original question, how do you remove your product key?

Just to clarify, if the product key isn't valid, you can try activating Windows using the Microsoft toolkit. Edited April 1, 2015 by foxhound590 link breaches coc
