Hi guys, so basically I figured out how to turn off the boost clock on my Ryzen 7 4800H using some tweaks in the registry. This lets me see it in battery settings. When boost is on, it runs at 4.2 Ghz. Without it, it just sits at base speed of 2.9 Ghz. The main reason I want to do this is so my fans don't spin too loud all the time and keep dust buildup low. It also helps with heat since the chip still stays near 4.2 Ghz even when I'm just watching videos or browsing the web. Now, here is my question: will switching back and forth between these two settings damage my processor? Because I turn boost on right before playing games to get maximum performance, then switch it off again for safety. Is constantly turning those switches on and off going to hurt my CPU? Thanks a lot for your help! https://imgur.com/a/yfTvZa8 View: https://imgur.com/a/yfTvZa8

That's okay. It won't hurt anything. The computer turns off its strong part when you aren't using it and goes back on when you start working hard. You are only managing how much power is used now.

That's okay. It won't hurt anything. The computer goes on a low-power setting while you aren't using it, and jumps back up when you start working hard. You're actually getting to manage how things run better than before.

thanks so much for this! So when switching between modes, does the power draw change suddenly or does the processor speed up and down like crazy? No, nothing like that. It's just me being super careful and paranoid, sorry about that! This is my graduation present, I bought it at a really low price, and I plan to use it for years in the future.

Modern processors are built exactly like this. They can go between low energy use and high energy use many times a second.

No, putting your computer on battery saver won't stop it from boosting energy right away.

My computer doesn't come with that special power setting turned on by default. I had to create my own plan using some tweaks in the settings so the "boost" feature got turned off.
