I have a TUF GAMING X570-PLUS motherboard with a RAID 0 configuration using four SSDs. I need to remove one SSD from the RAID setup and keep only three, without losing data. I’m unsure how to adjust the RAID from four to three drives safely.

It’s unclear whether RAID 0 works through your motherboard’s BIOS settings. You might have more options in Windows 10/11 using Storage Spaces via Partiy. Be cautious with data loss since RAID 0 distributes data across all drives.

RAID 0 operates this way... I was hoping for a feature to transfer data between SSDs and eliminate one.

According to what I understand, altering the structure of a RAID0 array typically requires destroying and rebuilding it entirely. There’s no option to relocate data within the array after it’s set up. Additionally, with an X570 motherboard, you can’t use TRIM for SSDs configured as RAID or Windows striped storage, which will cause their performance to decline over time. I’m concerned I might have missed something—SSD RAID on X570 isn’t ideal, and I’d appreciate confirmation from someone else if this has been resolved by AMD recently.

You're wondering if the system allows trimming. I wasn't aware of that feature. If you're correct, then it's not just for gaming. Redownloading all games would be a hassle, especially with a 7TB RAID setup—about half used. It could slow things down significantly.

You need to split the array and begin again. You can still save your data but you can't change an array while it's running like that. Regarding trim, it seems the chipset should handle the command, though that might not be correct. Trim functioned with RAID 0 on my 545S array on Z77, but not on X58. I haven’t tested it on B550 since I switched to NVMe drives. They’re very fast indeed.

My investigation revealed that TRIM isn't enabled for SSD RAID on nearly all current chipsets, with the exception of the X570.
