Trying to make an Intel i5 3570k run faster without crashing it.
Hey, I want to try overclocking my PC and only used MSI Afterburner before. If I do it through the BIOS, will the results be the same? Also, if I go straight to BIOS, am I just boosting the CPU and leaving the GPU alone? What if I use both methods? Can I still use Afterburner for the GPU even if I started from BIOS? Or is that bad idea? There are other settings in BIOS like the CPU Clock Ratio (which shows up at 3.4GHz) that aren't in Afterburner, so maybe starting there will be more efficient. My gaming PC has terrible lag sometimes when playing Microsoft Flight Simulator, and more power helps too. Any help is welcome here. Specs: Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77M-D3H Memory: Adata 8GB + Kingston 8GB at 1333MHz Power Supply: Corsair TX 550W GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB CPU: Intel i5-3570K SSD: Samsung 760 EVO + Seagate Barracuda 2TB
Well, the program called "MSI Afterburner" is just a tool that lets you speed up your graphics card. In BIOS settings, you can change the CPU and memory speeds too, but that's separate from this app. Doing both at once usually won't hurt your computer; in fact, it was designed for exactly that. I recommend starting by boosting your RAM and CPU first while checking them with stress tests to make sure everything runs smoothly without crashing, then move on to adjusting the graphics card later using MSI Afterburner.
Thanks for your reply! I tried setting the Turbo values to 4.5GHz and the system wouldn't start up. Then I lowered it to 4.2GHz and it started working, with a high temp around 71C during stress testing. I read online that people can get 4.5 or 4.6GHz without any trouble, but mine won't boot at those speeds for some reason. What am I doing wrong?
I'm following this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxCPyF-1...omPCReview. In the video, they adjust Vcore values on each core (there are 4 cores total), and set Turbo Power limit to 250 watts (the default is 77) and Core Current limit to 250 amps (the default is 112). I don't see adjusting Vcore in my BIOS. My motherboard is a bit different from this video but very similar. Will I be able to reach 4.5GHz with my setup or not? Also, Internal PLL overvoltage is set to auto... Should I turn it on or off to get higher OCs working?
