Trying to flash the initial BIOS on a ROG Strix B550-e motherboard – be careful!
Hello, I'm setting up my new rig. When I try to flash the BIOS using the ASUS EasyFlash tool from my thumb drive, a warning appears even though no OS is installed. The message says to back up your BitLocker recovery key and disable BitLocker encryption before updating the BIOS. Is this just a standard warning I can skip? I tried it before and haven't managed to update from v2604 to v2806.
Based on available information, this appears to be a typical caution since the BIOS doesn’t recognize Bitlocker activity. It also occurs when TPM is turned on during Windows 11 setup. Since no operating system is installed, Bitlocker isn’t active, so you can disregard it unless you format the drive for safety. You should upgrade the BIOS, then return to it in BIOS mode before starting Windows and re-enable TPM. Updating the BIOS turns off TPM, but enabling it before the first Windows boot should work.
Great! I took the plunge and confirmed everything is set up. I'm planning to switch to Windows 11 soon and will verify the TPM status. Thanks for the helpful community support! R.
