I am the latest owner of an i7-10700K and feel the urge to push it overclocked since I invested extra for an unlocked CPU. I tried a light overclock on my previous model (6700K) and didn’t worry much because the system handled heavy gaming without issues. But after reading online guides, I’m unsure if I’m ready to push this CPU to 5 or even 5.1GHz safely. My motherboard is an Asus ROG Strix Z490-G Gaming and I use an H115i cooler. Initially, I followed some BIOS overclocking instructions, setting the vcore to auto, which kept it at 5.0GHz all-core and above 1.5V. That was a big mistake—I realized the voltage was too high, causing temperatures over 80°C during games. I adjusted manually to 1.35V, which felt reasonable based on what I found online, though many users claim higher voltages with better results. While gaming, my PC crashed, but I thought 1.35V would still be safe. I sought advice online but struggled to understand advanced settings like LLC, VCCIO, etc., and even downloaded Prime95 for a stress test. It crashed immediately at 5GHz with 1.4V. My BIOS estimates suggest a 5GHz run needs over 1.5V, so I’m questioning whether my chip is unsuitable. I need guidance on other BIOS settings and tips to keep stable 5GHz performance without risking damage. Also, should I overclock this CPU to get value and see real game improvements compared to turbo boost?

You don't have to push it to 5GHz or 5.1GHz—its performance is built-in from the start.
