Trying Asus EZ Tuning and it won't start up
Hi, I tried to tune the computer using Asus EZ Tune in the BIOS on my Z390 tuf gaming motherboard, but not once before this happened. Now something broke and the PC won't start. I took out the battery for over five minutes, also reset the CMOS by shorting some pins, and nothing works. Just when I press the power button, a click comes out. There are no RGB lights on. My PSU is a SilentiumPC Supremo FM2 Gold 750W. Help will be greatly appreciated.
That sounds like your power supply or motherboard died. Have you tried restarting them to fix it?
It looks like the power supply unit is working now that I've made some adjustments. The computer starts up and fans spin, cooling runs fine, and even the RAM lights up—everything works as long as the 8-pin connection is plugged in. If I plug it directly into the 8 pin connector instead of another one, everything dies again.
I saw a comment from Tong Chang on this YouTube video: "In your situation, you probably have a bad voltage regulator (VRM). When the motherboard shorts while connecting the 4 or 8-pin CPU 12V ATX power cable to it, that means your power supply is trying to save your CPU from getting hurt. If your VRM is damaged or broken, it can't hold the right voltage for the processor's needs, so the power supply stops cutting off instantly to prevent more damage." That sounds pretty normal. When EZ Tune tried to optimize the VRM, something might have gone wrong and now it won't start. It looks like the motherboard should be replaced, but what do you think?
That might actually be true here, but I don't know for sure because there are no reviews on the SilentiumPC Supremo FM2 Gold 750W - it looks like a basic slideshow of sorts to me. That power supply COULD be causing the computer to shut down because of overvoltage or overcurrent protection trips... well, that's not helpful either since there is nothing else we can check out on. If you have another Z390 motherboard and PSU still available, I'd recommend trying those - it might help narrow things down between the two options. If none of that works... try swapping out the motherboard first, then the power supply unit.
Thanks for the advice! SilentiumPC is a big deal here in Poland and people love its reviews, but it's missing both OTP and OCP features. I'm not sure if that matters to you. It has been running flawlessly for over 1.5 years with almost constant CPU usage all day long until I tried using EZ Tune. Unfortunately, I don't have other parts to test on yet, so I'll probably need some experts' help instead. I don't want to send everything in because it still has a warranty, but I will tell you when the problem is fixed.
I bought a new motherboard, the Gigabyte Aorus Pro, and it still doesn't work. Even though I connected the CPU cable and the red light came up on the board while the PC started booting into a loop, switching to a cheap Pentium Gold fixed the problem and everything is fine now. It feels like the Asus EZ Tune fried my Intel Core i9-9900k. Does Asus need to give me money back for the CPU? I just turned it on by default in BIOS settings.
