Adjust the screen brightness and place a light source in front of it. Check the wall periodically and blink several times. You seem to blink less when focused on the monitor compared to when you're not. However, I don't believe prolonged viewing causes permanent vision issues—just short-term eye fatigue, not lasting damage unless you're extremely tired or skipping sleep for days.
