I recently purchased a new graphics card, the AMD Sapphire PULSE RX 580 8GB OC. After checking it on PC Part Picker, everything seemed fine, but when I switched it out today, I encountered an issue. I’m using an XILENCE 550W Power Supply XN056.
The external look was similar, but the internal pins appeared slightly different. Should I replace my power supply to use the new card?
Apologies if I was unclear. My previous card was a GTX1650 with 4GB of RAM.
it seems your +2 is positioned on the incorrect side of the 6-pin connector. that’s why the two pins on the left are flipped (the curved part points in the opposite direction). this likely causes it to not fit properly into the card’s connector. anyone else notice this? they should be able to detach from the main 6 pin and then reattach it to the opposite side, ensuring all the small curves point in the same direction.
The 1660 is claimed to be quicker and remains valid. Return the 580.
A new PSU is recommended due to the connector. Despite minor visual issues, these are typical connectors used in the industry. The connector accommodates both GPUs.
I can try using the old PCIe cable with the new CPU without any issues, right? I'm curious because in one YouTube video someone with a similar issue used it and ended up damaging a video card. They later had to install a PCIe extension on another card to fix it.
Using 432w at 12v isn't close to a 550w power supply. It's one of the poorest regulated units available today, lacking essential protection features.
The issue was about the PCIe connector. I understand you found the PSU to be poor. If you wanted to highlight this, you should have suggested an alternative or inquired if the person has funds for a new one.
