While adjusting BIOS settings to turn on TPM 2.0, my system fails to power up and then cuts off unexpectedly. After saving the changes, the PC briefly lights up its fans but then powers down completely. Restarting seems to reset the issue, though TPM remains disabled. This pattern suggests a possible hardware concern rather than just a BIOS configuration problem. The recent CPU temperature spike and cooler replacement resolved the shutdown, indicating thermal management may be the root cause. The behavior also changes when Secure Boot is enabled, confirming it’s not solely a TPM or firmware issue.

For the most recent information, visit https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/A520M-A-...pport#bios. When activating TPM, ensure Firmware mode (fTPM) is enabled.

It doesn't make much sense of all that. If the crash was due to overheating, it wouldn't stop the PC from restarting after a few minutes. After cooling the CPU, it would have booted for at least a minute before shutting down again—worst case scenario being the cooler failing completely. The TPM2.0 issue is really confusing...

The person at the repair shop also gave up, and the PC isn’t displaying any errors, which we could test next.

I’m nervous about updating the BIOS since I’ve heard that if something goes wrong—like a power issue—it could damage your motherboard if there’s no flash button.

Consider a software update still, since your PC isn't posting with TPM. If it fails, it likely means the TPM chip is damaged physically, so you'll need to swap the board.

I successfully updated the BIOS and now TPM is working properly without any problems. However, when accessing 'tpm.msc' it displays an error stating "compatible TPM not found" and reminds me to check for TPM 1.2 or newer. The yellow warning on the device manager for TPM drivers persists, and I've already tried disabling secure boot and TPM again.

Interesting question! Enabling TPM comes with significant challenges, reduced performance, and unclear benefits.
