I chose to reinstall Windows 8.1 today (not the original) and it prompted me to install Windows 10. I reached out to Microsoft for help and completed the activation, obtaining a genuine copy. After installing, I restarted my computer and signed in, but encountered an error stating it couldn't install properly. Since I had already applied all updates before this, I tried the installation process twice more without success. I'm reaching out for assistance here. Thanks! Edit: I bought this version but used it on several machines. Edit: Error message: WindowsUpdate_C1900101 OR WindowsUpdate_dt000

It seems you're frustrated about not getting a proper response. You mentioned having a full Windows 8.1 copy and used it on another PC before, but now you're trying to apply it to your current system.

This shouldn't affect whether you use a used key—it's a software problem, not a licensing issue. Are you able to boot to the desktop? Is it the Windows 10 version you're having trouble installing?

I’m working with Windows 8.1 now, but once I restart the computer the update window appears and reports an installation issue with Windows 10.

OK.......... What I would do. Run disk clean-up, wait for it to load a click "clean up system files" tick all boxes and let it run and finish. Then run............... services.msc, stop the "windows update service" and delete all the contents of "c:\windows\software distribution" folder. Reboot your machine and start the process from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software.../windows10
