Trouble with overclocking i5 4670k, encountering issues, strange restarts and crashes.
Today I attempted to overclock the i5 4670k, but I haven’t achieved the expected outcomes. Here’s what I’ve been doing:
I gradually increased the multiplier for a while without adjusting the Vcore, which didn’t help much. Then I slowly raised the Vcore and boosted the multiplier up to 45 with a Vcore of 1.290, reaching around 85°C during Prime95 stress tests (26.6). After about 30 minutes I encountered a BSOD, so I settled on a Vcore of 4.4 because temperatures were already high. I set the multiplier to 44 and Vcore to 1.270, which gave a stable clock—though I wasn’t sure if it was just stressing the CPU for a short time.
Later, after playing Arma3 for an hour, my PC restarted quickly without a blue screen, but then I experienced a crash while playing Discord during testing, which froze the system completely. This led me to re-evaluate my settings. I tried several benchmarks like OCCTPT and PSU tests, but everything performed well until Discord froze after a short session.
Now I’m trying again, increasing the clock speed further (currently 4.4 at 1.270 Vcore). It’s showing signs of overheating, reaching up to 80°C, and sometimes freezing even during stress tests. I’m worried it might crash eventually, so I’m considering lowering the multiplier but fearing the same issues will return. I also wonder if having two screens could contribute to these freezes during testing.
