Trouble OC my i5 - 6600K
Trouble OC my i5 - 6600K
Over the past week I've been working on overclocking my i5 skylake CPU (that's the point), but no matter what adjustments I make or how small they are, the machine won't reboot properly and keeps asking me to reset. I've never had this issue with my i5 -4690k unless I pushed it too hard.
My current configuration is:
i5 -6600k
MSI z170a m5
32g DDR4-2133 Kingston

This list should help if you need it.
Thank you for your assistance! :^)
EDIT: Even shifting the base clock from 35 to 36 has this impact.

I obtained it from that source. Both my PC and laptop interpret it as a 160 file. The manual (finally located) advises simply inserting it onto a USB and entering flash mode, but I attempted that and failed to read the file.
I don’t have an MSI motherboard, so I’m unsure how to update the BIOS. You might want to search online for tutorials or consult your motherboard manual. It seems the "flash utility" isn’t included in the downloaded package.
Your starting clock is 35, what is your multiplier? Regarding vcore, how about updating the BIOS?
NA Feraligatr:
My BIOS has an update available, but I'm unsure how to proceed with it.
When downloading the update, does it come in an .exe or .ISO format?
If it's an exe, ensure all programs are closed and run it (be cautious if your PC shuts down unexpectedly during the process). If it's an ISO, mount it as a bootable disk and start from there.
The system interprets the file as a '160' format. It should be possible to mount it via USB.

My computer interprets it as a '160' file. Can I mount it via USB?
I don’t know what a 160 file actually is.
Check this link: http://us.msi.com/product/motherboard/su...#down-bios
It should be an executable since the M5 is a modern motherboard.
That's where I got it from. Both my PC and laptop read it as a 160 file. The manual (finally found it) says that I just have to put it on a usb then go into flash mode, but I tried that and it couldn't read the file.
