Trouble coming back to life when you restart Windows 10
Hi, recently I bought a new graphics card and when I reinstalled my Windows after getting it upgraded, things are actually worse than before. It's strange because I didn't install just right after replacing it; I was so excited to use my "new toy" that I skipped the reinstall step. Now, even games like Valorant used to give me 190-210 frames per second, but now I get only 120-130 sometimes and see stutters. Elden Ring ran okay before too. Warzone 2 is basically unplayable because of the stuttering. My PC specs are: an Asus Prime B450M-A motherboard with two 8GB sticks in T-Force, a Red 3200MHz Ryzen 5 2600X (which still has a stock cooler), and I plan to upgrade soon to a 5600X. I also have a Gigabyte RX 5700 XT, a Be Quiet! 600W power supply, 1TB Samsung 860 Evo SSDs on two bays, and a mechanical HDD for storage. I've tried messing around with my GPU settings by lowering the frequency by 100MHz (something people often say fixes things online) as well as turning "Performance" mode in the BIOS to overclock the CPU to 4GHz. I also tried changing RAM speed in the BIOS, looked through tons of tutorials on how to boost performance, updated drivers, changed Windows power settings and performance modes, ran a benchmark test (yes, I even tested it with the latest Windows update and got exactly the same score).
Hey there, checking UBM and your CPU is underperforming. It can go up to a speed called boost that's set at 4.2GHz, but your score isn't matching that potential. Which power plan are you running? You should have the Ryzen balanced profile selected to let your CPU boost properly. Also, what BIOS version are you on? You should be using 3802. This might be a part of why things aren't working right now.
So try a search for power + sleep on Windows. You'll probably see some power plans listed there. Usually you'd find something like Balanced or High Performance. Make sure one option that fits your Ryzen setup is available. Pick the right plan. If it's missing, check this link to get the newest drivers from ASUS: PRIME B450M-A II|Motherboards|ASUS Global Yes, your BIOS is probably too old and causing all kinds of problems just by being out of date. Follow the steps in the motherboard manual to update it properly.
After changing the power plan, updating the BIOS, and clearing CMOS, Valorant feels a bit smoother. Warzone 2 and Elden Ring still feel pretty much the same as before—running around 55 to 65 frames per second with some stuttering. I found this on UserBenchmark. Also, after the BIOS update, options like a resizable window bar appeared, but I'm not sure if they are worth using at all.
I've turned it on and tried most of my games out, it has helped with my fps but now the stutters are my main problem. I can't really think of anything else i could try to reduce or just get rid of them entirely. Maybe you have some ideas?
Have you switched power plans from the given options? I'd suggest doing it this way: First open PowerShell and then type these codes to set default profiles for every item. Ultimate Performance uses this code: powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61 High Performance uses this one: powercfg -duplicatescheme 8c5e7fda-e8bf-4a96-9a85-a6e23a8c635c Balanced Power uses this one: powercfg -duplicatescheme 381b4222-f694-41f0-9685-ff5bb260df2e Power Saver uses this one: powercfg -duplicatescheme a1841308-3541-4fab-bc81-f71556f20b4a Just copy, paste each code, and press Enter after every line. Then go ahead and change to High or Ultimate to see if there is more improvement. See which one is better for you: Ryzen or the Ultimate/High plans?
