I’m beginning the upgrade process one component at a time. Right now I own a Crosshair VI Hero equipped with the latest BIOS, an AMD Ryzen 5 1600 (3.4 GHz), two Trident Z RGB graphics cards (16-18-18-38 at 1600 MHz) and an EVGA GTX 1060 6GB video card inside a Thermaltake Overseer RX-1 case. I recently acquired the Enthoo 719 case, along with a Trident Z Royal 3200 32GB (four 8GB cards). My main concern is whether the Royal graphics card can be used with the Crosshair VI. I haven’t found any details confirming compatibility.

Before you advise me to purchase something else first, I’m thinking about replacing the motherboard (probably a Crosshair VII Hero) and getting a Ryzen 5 3600 later. So far I’ve been playing games only, not using heavy workloads, so high power isn’t necessary. Also, with today’s video card prices, this expense might be postponed. Will you say yes or no?

Are you worried about using unapproved high-speed RAM that might cause a blue smoke or something? Probably not. The most likely outcome is you won’t be able to run at 3200mhz. Although Newegg suggests it’s possible in theory, it’s an advanced setting and will require some adjustments. It could simply mean turning on the XMP profile. Here’s a quick guide: if you already have a working crosshair with compatible memory and this 3200mhz RAM, try it out. Just power down the device, discharge any static, remove the old RAM, install the new one, boot into BIOS, and press the XMP button.

First off I do not have it yet, though it is ordered. And no I am not afraid that it will let the blue smoke out (moronic and mean thing to say). The question was will it work on this motherboard since I can not find info that says if it does or not. I planned on trying it anyways if some did not say that it can. I may not be an expert builder but I am no novice either. If I do not know the answer and can't find it myself, I ask some one who might. Even experts ask questions once in a while because they do not know the answer. So please do not talk down to me (yes you did) like I am some one who has no business putting together a computer. You could have been more respectful in your answer.

I’m not sure, but I personally trust the blue smoke. It usually means something serious happened. That’s number two when checking if everything is powered on properly. If you want to sound like someone who knows their stuff, just know I found the question a bit frustrating—it felt like someone was trying to look after me by checking my motherboard’s memory list even though it probably wasn’t there. The only certainty is the QVL for your board. The issue is that it’s just a “will it” list; things on there might work, but most other details won’t either. Your board says the speed is “O.C.” which means it’s possible but not guaranteed to run at that exact rate and may need some adjustments. Over time, fixing things has gotten simpler—often just a single button press. But if it doesn’t work, there are still other options. Your question was mainly about whether this specific brand and model would fit your board. Even if someone bought the exact part and board, manufacturers sometimes change internal components without updating the model, making it almost impossible to use unless you’re lucky. The odds of getting it to run smoothly are around 100%, but only if it’s on the QVL. Otherwise, it could be tricky unless it matches the tested specs exactly.

This signals an issue, but it doesn’t guarantee it will happen. I’m worried about the blue smoke and the risk of something failing, especially since this is my only system and replacing it would be costly. Everyone who builds computers wants to confirm power is working and everything functions correctly. Did you check it yourself? For your reference, the list I saw was from 2018 and wasn’t available then, which is why I’m reaching out. My current memory matches the one listed. If this bothers you, you could have ignored it and moved on—just like most readers here. Sure, I’ve had experience, but that doesn’t make me omniscient, which is why forums exist. There’s a chance someone else might have the same board and tried it, offering an answer. That’s why this forum matters. Still, there’s a small risk involved.

You verified the QVL but remain skeptical. A perfect 99.9% isn’t satisfactory. You need the complete 100%. I’m afraid I can’t provide that. I doubt anyone else could. Even if manufacturers switched internal components for the same brand and model, identical memory remains unlikely. I understand why it stayed unanswered for a long time. I usually jump in when responses are delayed, hoping people appreciate timely help. This didn’t seem to be one of those cases. The tone felt panicked, and the repeated “can’t find any info” suggested confusion about what to search for. I took a risk. I’m sorry if I did that. It felt more like a challenge—someone actually knows how to locate memory for that brand on that specific board. That’s rare, but possible. It won’t boost your chances to 100%, though it could push it slightly higher, maybe a fraction more.

I understand you're seeking a realistic assessment. It's understandable you're cautious given the information available. Checking an outdated list might help, but it won't guarantee compatibility. This situation highlights why I turned to this forum—so others can assist without feeling judged. My goal is to learn, not to prove anything wrong. Your honesty about not knowing everything shows your willingness to improve. While I appreciate your effort, I found the approach a bit unhelpful. If you hadn't mentioned that first point, things might have been clearer. It's possible this could happen, but it's something we should consider together.
