You can adjust the taskbar appearance in Windows 11 to match Windows 10's behavior by changing the taskbar style settings. Look for options under "Taskbar" or "Appearance" to customize how apps appear when they load on the taskbar.

It performs this action automatically (as shown in the example, before and after opening).

You're asking if clicking a pinned taskbar icon triggers another instance of the same program instead of just using the original pinned one. On Windows 11, this behavior can vary depending on the app. I encountered this issue with Steam and managed it by following these steps: open the app, remove it from the taskbar, re-pin it, then restart the program to see if it resolves.

Examine the picture to understand your point of view. I find it less appealing since it appears overly busy rather than simple.

I won’t revert to Windows 10 since it’s a laptop and I’m not attempting a full reinstall. This should be a straightforward adjustment, not a complete system overhaul.

The problem has been present since Windows 7. It appears to stem from an app-side issue, usually resolved by updating the app. A simple fix is to close the problematic app, unhook its icon, and reattach the active one.

I'll guide you through these steps:
1. Launch the pinned app
2. Click it once and remove it from the taskbar (keep the app running)
3. Right-click the app icon and select pin to taskbar again
4. Close the program and start it over to check if the issue continues @GoodBytes also shared this solution in a prior thread. I've fixed the same problem on both Windows 10 and Windows 11.
