The machine is running Ubuntu Desktop and booting fine. I attempted to set up a 2 hardware RAID 1 configuration across four non-boot HDDs, applied the settings in BIOS, but I'm stuck on the BIOS screen for over an hour with no updates. This has occurred twice before; once it caused a complete motherboard failure. My system uses an AMD 5600G CPU, integrated graphics via MSI Pro B550-VC ATX Boot SSD, and two WD Blue 500GB drives paired with two WD Red 4TB drives connected through SATA. The OS is Ubuntu Desktop (just to verify the setup; possibly switching to Debian). I followed the BIOS instructions for enabling RAID mode, restarting, clearing the drives, and applying the two RAID arrays. I'm really confused and would appreciate any guidance. Thanks.

Does turning off RAID affect booting? Usually RAID forces all drives into an array and hides individual ones, plus it switches to a different driver which can prevent Windows from starting. It’s usually safer to keep RAID disabled on the motherboard and rely on software-based RAID through STARGE in Windows.

The device started properly without any issues before I turned on RAID. I don’t have RAID enabled on the boot disk. I’m not launching Windows; I might look into software RAID later, but right now I want to prevent damaging the system.

I'm hesitant about proceeding. Right now I'm stuck on the BIOS screen; the only option is a power reset, which caused the board to fail last time. If this is just a slow hardware issue, I'd rather skip it.

I just restarted the system. Throughout my experience with various boards, I've never encountered a board getting damaged during a power cycle.

I'll wait for the RAID array to complete. I saw many websites saying hardware RAID builds much slower than software RAID. Plus, my previous PC got damaged in the same way.

This setup doesn't support hardware RAID; it's a simulated RAID using the motherboard. The CPU handles the RAID configuration processing. When initializing RAID, you should see a progress indicator and additional details. Consider disabling the RAID feature on the board.
