Trapped at 1Gbps speed
Trapped at 1Gbps speed
Hi Everyone, I’m trying to figure out how to improve my connection speeds. I have a Synology DS1515+ connected through a Netgear GS116V2, with four gigabit ports on the switch and two gigabit links from my PC. I set up a bond for all four ports in Synology, but I’m still getting only 100MBps. My PC shows 2Gbps, while the NAS reports 4Gbps. The switch is unmanaged, and I suspect the issue might be with the broadband router (a Sky Q in the UK) limiting the port capacity. I’m not sure if a managed switch would help or if I need to upgrade ports on my PC. I’d appreciate any advice, even if I’m not an expert. Thanks in advance!
Certainly! Here’s a revised version:
Can you connect the model to the switch?
Link Aggregation won't reach more than 1Gbps. It's designed to distribute traffic among several connections, but each connection will always route through one link. Without SMBv3 load balancing on both ends, you'll never surpass 1Gbps across multiple links.
Based on my understanding, unless the NAS enables SMB3.0 Multi-channel, speeds above 1Gbit for file transfers won't be achievable—it's mainly about managing sessions across two ports. Bonding should behave similarly to Link Aggregation. This approach won't meet your requirements.
