Your Windows 8.1 system can be upgraded using the extra retail copy of Windows 8.1 Pro on the disk, but you’ll likely need to wipe the current OS before installing the new version. A fresh installation is usually required for a clean upgrade.

The disk itself holds no significance. What truly counts are the product keys. Yes, you can simply select the "upgrade" choice. Even though you may repeatedly encounter the same issues you initially faced, I suggest transferring all essential data onto a USB drive (or storing it in cloud storage for a short period while working on it) and performing a custom installation. Then delete your partitions and set up new ones before installing the software.

I believe there might be a misunderstanding. There are no issues for me. I'm just aiming to upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Pro and want to confirm everything will work smoothly.

You can enhance your system by beginning the setup of the 8.1 Pro. The process will recognize your earlier Windows version and initiate an upgrade. Proceed with the wizard, and it will prompt whether you wish to continue with the upgrade.

Just launch the control panel (adjust the display to show smaller or larger icons if needed). Go to Add Features for Windows 8.1, type your product key, and press next. The additional features will then be installed.
