No, upgrading won't free up your 7 keys.

It's because I prefer purchasing the Win 8 upgrade instead of the complete version.

You might consider it for performance improvements or security updates when upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8.

Hey... It's for my girlfriend. She's using an AMD APU, and it looks like she prefers Windows 8 more.

I would wait for Windows 10. Version 7 is sufficient at the moment.

It seems you're questioning the availability of Windows 7 keys and the transition to Windows 8. The FPS improvement in Windows 8 is minimal compared to Windows 7, and while the Metro interface isn't perfect, it's still functional. If you need your Windows 7 key, it might be time to consider upgrading or exploring alternatives.

I've been using Windows 8.1 for roughly a year before it crashed, then I reinstalled it and it failed again, and so on across multiple drives on two different systems. My Windows 7 from 2009 has always worked fine. Go ahead. (Recommend the mod from Ninite Windows 8 mod—it just makes it look like Windows 7)
