I’m planning to upgrade my motherboard and CPU, specifically wanting the 5800X. I’m unsure which motherboard to match it with. Checking the forum’s Motherboard Tier List helped me consider the Gigabyte X570 AORUS Master, but I’m still not confident. My current configuration includes an AMD Ryzen 7 1700 MOBO, a Gigabyte GA-AX370 Aorus Gaming K7, a cooler MasterLiquid ML240L RGB, and a TUF Gaming X3 OC HDD with 2TB Seagate Barracuda SSD and a Kingston A2000 NVMe Gen3 RAM. I also have a SeaSonic M12II 620W 80+ Bronze certified case, and I intend to add a new GPU and a Gen4 NVMe drive later.
Consider the MSI B550-A Pro. It can manage even a heavily overclocked 5950X and offers good value compared to more expensive B550 ATX options. Why would you choose pricier models such as the Aorus Master?

The main reason people opt for higher-end boards is usually performance gains or future-proofing. As for pairing the 5900X with MSI MAG X570 Tomahawk, it should work fine. I assumed I wouldn’t want to spend too much on the board if I only needed a cheaper CPU and a less expensive setup.
These premium motherboards are mainly useful for serious overclocking enthusiasts, such as those who experiment with liquid nitrogen cooling. Even budget options like the B550A Pro can support an overclocked 5800X. You won’t find much additional overclocking potential on these high-end boards if you rely on air or water cooling. The main reason to choose them is when you need features like a 5GB Ethernet connection, which makes sense in that context. The X570 Tomahawk can handle a 5900X regardless of the level of overclocking. It performs similarly to the B550-A Pro in that regard.
