Transition from 2004 PC to Semi post 2014 PC
I’m working on upgrading a Pentium 4 system running HT Vista into an older i3/i5 machine with an SSD. The initial step seems successful—the mechanical drive has been swapped for the SSD. But when I try to install it, the Vista load screen appears again after a short delay, followed by a beep and a restart. It looks like there might be a compatibility issue, especially given the significant differences in architecture between the two systems. The old PC’s power supply is no longer functional, and the mechanical IDE Ribbon Drive with an AGP port needs replacement. There are also concerns about missing license software and activation keys from the previous setup. Should I just install the new PC’s drivers, or is there another step I should take?
Review the BIOS settings to see the current operating mode of your SATA port—likely AHCI, IDE, or RAID. You selected IDE. If the system still fails to boot, you’ll need to manually install the new controller’s drivers using a Vista installation CD and enter rescue mode during startup. Drivers setup details are unclear to me unless I recall it from before.
It seems you're facing challenges with the setup process. There might be a workaround, like reinstalling Vista and adjusting specific registry entries to ensure licenses and keys are transferred correctly. You could also try transferring files manually or using alternative methods if a fresh install isn't feasible.
You can locate license keys using available tools. https://archive.org/details/vistaoriginalJMR
