Transforming my old computer into a media or storage server
Upgraded this summer with a 5900x and 3070ti. Changed my old early i7 and video card to a smaller form factor for media streaming at home. I'm wondering if encoding old Blu-rays and DVDs locally before sending them over the LAN to the server would be more efficient. From what I've learned, older hardware can slow down the process. It might make sense to let the newer system handle the heavy lifting and then transfer the files later.
The new device will operate significantly quicker and consume less power during its tasks.
