Hi, to prolong the life of your laptop I began converting it into a desktop setup. However, I wanted to retain the built-in monitor outside of it so I could attach it behind another display using VESA mounting. The issue arises when I disconnect the integrated monitor—the other outputs such as HDMI and Mini DP stop working—but when the mainboard is connected, everything functions properly. This makes it hard to exclude the screen from the final design. I checked the BIOS but found no settings to bypass the internal display. In Windows Gedit I disabled the lid sensor (usually part of the monitor driver board) and even created a startup script to try that. It’s interesting that when the NVIDIA driver isn’t installed, the second monitor works without issue, suggesting the problem might relate to the integrated screen configuration. The laptop model is a Clevo P650RS-G (6700HQ and 1070). If you need videos, feel free to ask—I’m happy to help in English.

Join the discussions here! Test connecting the cable to the motherboard's display header, avoiding the screen side. This may cause the system to mistake the display for being present. If the issue persists, turn off the monitor in Windows.

Hi, thank you! I understand your issue. You're disconnecting from the motherboard because the display connector feels weaker. I'll note that I didn't mention trying to disable the display settings, and it hasn't changed anything.

Just disconnect the display connection but connect it to the motherboard. Make sure the cable is fully removed from the screen before attaching it to the board.

It seems like things didn't go as planned. You might need to keep the panel plugged in.

It looks like you're suggesting that unless a person with more knowledge joins in, things might not progress much. Thanks for the note!

I completed a project some time back, and it functioned well without the display.

Created a custom cooling setup for VRM and VRAM. Made modifications to two desktop coolers for the CPU and GPU. Built a high-quality case but wanted better thermal performance.
