Transform GPT/UEFI files into MBR/Legacy format
Transform GPT/UEFI files into MBR/Legacy format
Thinking about upgrading my workmate's PC, but that also requires a downgrade to some extent, the replacement machine has way more horsepower but lacks the ability to boot UEFI, and i want just stick his current UEFI boot drive in there to avoid reinstalling our very complicated and fragile Work PC installations. I read recently that there is now a tool included with windows 10 to convert MBR to GPT, but i want to know if theres a way to do the reverse ?? So i can convert his current UEFI OS into a Legacy one, and then boot it on the new (older) machine ?
Ah makes sense now. I remembered emulation, thinking UEFI booting needed a physical component on older motherboards. So, let me clarify: I copied his entire GPT drive from the original machine, inserted it into the replacement one, used PartedMagic to set up the Clover bootloader in the EFI partition, rebooted, and got a CLOVER report showing Windows as a bootable option?
Clover needs a compatible Legacy bootable media to function. Choose the correct drive in MB's BIOS settings—whether it's a Pendrive, SD card, HDD, SSD, or M.2 SATA. Make sure it appears as a boot option. Be aware that even with proper setup, cloned Windows might not accept changes to the hardware configuration because existing drivers remain installed. If configured correctly, you should see an option to boot from EFI or Microsoft EFI (when the OS is on the GPT drive).
