Transferring Windows from HDD to M.2 drive
On the manufacturer’s site for the SSD you purchased, they often provide tools to transfer all your data and even the operating system to the new drive. Samsung’s software is reliable as long as both drives are connected. If you don’t have official support, third-party options exist but may vary in stability. It might be safer to reinstall Windows instead.
You have several choices available. You can download a Windows installation ISO from Microsoft and set up the operating system on the SSD. Transfer your files afterward. Use a cloning tool to move the entire hard drive onto the SSD. Depending on the software, you might need to reduce the size of the C:\ partition to fit within the SSD plus extra space. This method is something I prefer less because if the program isn't precise it could also copy the recovery disk, which usually takes around 10 GB or more. Reduce the C:\ partition to a size smaller than the SSD plus padding—about 1 GB should suffice. Build a system image via Control Panel -> Backup and Restore (Windows 7) -> Create System Image. Once the image is ready, apply the recovery tool from the system image. For detailed instructions, you can visit https://www.techrepublic.com/article/how...-recovery/. I’ve handled these steps before, so feel free to ask for clarification to make it smoother.
If I found myself in this scenario, I would -Transfer the data from the hard drive to an external one -Install Windows on the SSD -Format the external drive -Then relocate the data back onto the original drive but if cloning is necessary, using manufacturer software should resolve the issue
