I just completed what you’re aiming for, to be truthful—I only changed the operating system onto the new SSD, booted it up, moved your files, and reinstalled everything you needed. Once done, you can wipe the 1TB drive and format it so it becomes a clean Windows 7-free drive. I keep the OS on the storage just in case the SSD fails, allowing you to restart for backup. Does that make sense?

As long as you're not setting up Windows on another machine, the only possible outcome is that Windows will request activation and ask for a phone number to cancel the existing product code, then provide a new one for your updated system. The software is linked to a hardware component on your motherboard (the exact one isn’t specified) to stop piracy. You should be able to install Windows using your current key on the SSD, boot from it, and simply ask to reactivate your license. Just remove your old files before reformatting if you want to use the new drive.
