Transferring distribution version

Hey everyone, I'm feeling a bit stuck with vanilla Arch Linux and really enjoy Linux Mint for its simplicity. The only thing holding me back is the fear of losing my files. I've heard some people suggest backing up /home and copying it elsewhere, but I'm not sure how to do that properly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I just found out my home and root partitions are on the same drive... Migration won’t work.

Using LMDE instead of standard LM won't necessarily mean you're getting older packages—just a different version setup.
