I’ve placed a fresh order for PC components, including a brand-new 1TB NVMe M2 SSD to use as your boot drive. My Windows setup is currently on a standard 250 GB M2 SSD. Linus showed a method in a recent Windows 11 video on how to clone your drive. What I need is to copy only the essential partitions and boot sectors, allowing Windows to run on the new drive while leaving everything else untouched. This is because I plan to switch to Windows 11 later, and I’m aware it’s free with a valid Windows 10 license. I’d like to do this smoothly without spending hours on backups, applying them to a new drive, and troubleshooting repeatedly before getting it right.

It’s a solid free cloning tool. The process copies your partitions to a new drive or removes them beforehand.

Thank you for the feedback. I’ll review it carefully. I aim to keep only the OS components and leave any non-essential files intact. Let me know if there’s a method available for this.

If the files you don’t need are stored on the OS drive or partition, they’re present unless you actively delete them. You can duplicate the drive and eliminate unnecessary files afterward. The cloning process doesn’t include a filter to automatically choose files you wish to exclude.

No cloning tool can achieve this. The best option is to reinstall Windows on your new storage device.

Thank you for your responses. I will delete any unnecessary files before the cloning then.
