Transfer the Windows drive to a fresh storage device!
Hello I have this 128gigs ssd as my windows drive but it remains mostly full. I've bought a new 500gigs ssd and want to replace it with my existing windows drive. Is there any software or method that I could use to clone my existing 128gig drive to the new drive so that all the software, data and maybe windows too, gets moved to the newer drive? I don't want to go on an installing marathon with all these software. ;-; Thanks in advance!
I work with PQMagic too. It doesn't really matter which program you use. What matters most is that Windows sets up multiple partitions—like a boot partition, a system drive, and a final partition for restore. Keep these partitions in place, and then move the C partition to the end of your new disk before resizing it.
If your new drive is a Samsung, they have a free cloning utility that is just click and clone. No configuration is necessary. I used it a couple of months ago to clone my OS that was on a SSD to a Samsung NVME. I think Crucial also have a free tool.
Macrium Reflect is now restricted for personal use. The final free edition is available for download. I've preserved both versions for future reference. It's reassuring knowing I almost removed the V11 installer multiple times.
Sure, the version I've set up on my PC is quite old, so it remains completely free and not a trial either. The free option available on their site is currently a 30-day trial, which should be sufficient for a quick cloning task. If you're planning to use it for regular backups, the situation changes.
Absolutely, that's correct. For my own sake, I don't consider free trials to be truly free. I also have a vintage V8 installer saved for long-term use.
Available for free but not original (valid for 30 days post-install). Most regular users usually create a single copy until they upgrade, though I think it’s still preferable to software offering a trial that restricts up to 90% of its features—especially the ones we really need. Still, as you and others suggested, there are plenty of other options. I just discovered Macrium during my first experience with cloning/imaging software, so it’s the one I’m most comfortable using. Cheers!
