Hey everyone, I recently bought a budget Gigabit PCIe LAN card to boost my connection speeds, but it’s still not quite optimal. I’m curious about common reasons for slow performance beyond the usual “others online” issue. The Ethernet port on my motherboard had a driver update, and I noticed the speed dropped from around 300 to about 500. After adding the PCIe card, I’m seeing speeds in the 700 range. I’ve attached some pictures for reference.

Honestly, I wouldn't be complaining about those kinds of speeds. Sure, there is the potential that people in your neighbourhood are also using it at the same time but you can't know until you try at various times of the day etc. However, most peoples download and uploads are not equal, I wouldn't worry about it. I mean heck, I only get 6.5mbps down and 0.8mbps up, I'd love your speeds.

Execute the test again with your task manager active, observe if you reach 100% CPU during the download phase. This may distort your outcome and give an inaccurate impression. A 1G speed test on SpeedTest.Net is notably CPU-heavy because it spawns many threads for downloading via TCP port 8080.
