You're planning to switch PCs and moving an OS from one system to another. The process typically involves transferring the operating system, which can include some technical steps. Moving a hard drive with an installed OS to another machine usually requires careful handling, especially if you're upgrading components like the motherboard, RAM, or CPU. The upgrade itself—switching to a different processor and adding new parts—won’t involve moving the OS, but you’ll need to reinstall it properly on the new hardware.

It's not a strong upgrade from a Phenom II X4. Just change it if you want.

I’m considering upgrading to a new motherboard. The previous one doesn’t support overclocking and feels outdated. Would transferring the OS-containing drive work without a full reinstall?
