Your PC won’t start properly because the motherboard is the problem. You’ve replaced it with a new one, but you’re unsure how to transfer your files and operating system without losing anything. It’s possible if you move everything to the new 2TB drive while keeping the old one for the OS. Just be careful to back up important data first.

The title doesn’t align with the narrative, so I went ahead and submitted it.

You're asking whether transferring all data from your 250GB drive to a new 2TB drive is possible, and if so, recommending a cloning tool like Clonezilla for an easy sector-by-sector copy.

Common cloning solutions fulfill your requirements. I used Acronis on an external drive, and the copied disc matched the original perfectly.

Once both HDDs are set up, you can use the larger 2TB drive for everything except the operating system. After that, you can install cloning software and transfer the rest.

You can simply set up a fresh operating system on the 2TB drive, then manually move everything to the new location. It should function identically. ^^ Just focus on saving files and reinstalling essential programs for the best results.

I don’t have any remaining funds for another operating system disc. I already own a Windows 8 disc, but it’s a single-use one, and I’ve already installed it on the 250GB drive, so I can’t reinstall the OS without removing it first.

It's a pleasant discovery that the OS functions smoothly on various motherboards following the update. Keeping the OS unchanged in the original drive and relocating non-program files to another HDD is much simpler than cloning. You can then reinstall it on a 250GB drive or simply leave it as is.
