I recently purchased a prebuilt system for upgrades running Windows 10 Pro. This is my first upgrade attempt, and I'm trying to change the boot drive from a 2TB HDD to a 500GB SSD. My main concern is how to do this safely without losing the OEM license, since I don’t have the product key. I haven’t signed into my Microsoft account on this machine either, as I prefer using a local account. I’ve read mixed advice—some say Windows will detect the hardware signature and activate automatically, while others claim you need to log in to your Microsoft account. Could you help me out?

Use a free tool to clone your drive temporarily, such as Acronis, AOMEI, or Macrium.

Alongside the free software mentioned, if either of your drives is a Samsung... you can also utilize their Data Migration Software. The amount of data stored on your 2TB drive is significant. Transferring just Windows isn't practical—it causes trouble. You'd need to move the entire boot partition, which could include everything. Ensure the total size stays below 500GB or reduce it accordingly.

Oh there isn't anything else on the drive other than windows, I didn't install anything when I got the PC because I knew I'd want to switch the boot drive to the SSD
