Transfer Linux Mint setup to another laptop using a different storage drive
I successfully revived my thinkpad X220 and improved its performance by swapping the old TN screen for an IPS panel and adding several upgrades. (It now has three extra USB 3.0 ports.) I transferred the 2.5" SSD from my previous laptop into the X220, and Linux Mint installed smoothly on that new drive. Now the X220 supports a 32GB M.SATA drive alongside the 2.5", so I plan to use it as the boot device while keeping the 2.5" drive for /home. The challenge is: can I relocate the boot files and swap partitions to the M.SATA without reinstalling, while preserving /home? Or should I create a backup that includes not just my files but also my settings, installed programs, and the PPA repositories I added for software not found in default repos? This would give me a complete snapshot to restore everything exactly as it is now, requiring only a few clicks for a fresh setup.
