You just bought a new laptop with limited storage. You were thinking about upgrading to more space, but you’re curious about how the Windows key will work. The settings say it’s tied to your Microsoft account. When you reinstall Windows 11, you’ll likely need to log in with your Microsoft account again. Let me know if you need further clarification!

Install the new drive and reinstall Windows. The key is saved on the motherboard in non-laptop devices. I recommend using a USB drive to download Windows 11. https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11 Select the Windows 11 installation media. You won’t see any key prompts during setup. Once online, Windows will activate automatically.
