I intend to purchase a Samsung Evo 850 and need to move my Windows 10 Home installation (previously Microsoft Windows 8.1) from the Amazon link provided. If feasible, please explain the process and any steps required. I lost my product key but retrieved it using the download link from TomsGuide. Your feedback would be appreciated.
Perform a fresh setup. https://www.howtogeek.com/224342/how-to-...indows-10/ If you don’t, you’ll likely run into problems and might not even start the system.
I don't have personal experience, but I can tell you that some users believe the TomsGuide program helps locate product keys.
Use the Belarc Advisor to find your Windows Key. Before proceeding, back up all your vital data and pictures. After backing up, detach the existing drive and set up the EVO. Once installed, perform a full fresh installation of Windows via the Windows Media Creation Tool. http://www.belarc.com/en/products_belarc_advisor https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help...tion-media
Samsung offers top-notch cloning tools. How many copies have you made? I’ve cloned dozens without any issues—rarely have I faced problems, especially with Samsung Data Migration.
Check the negative feedback about all Samsung SSDs. Most reviews mention cloning problems. Searching for "issues after cloning" brings up thousands of results. I've noticed countless discussions on this forum over the past years due to people facing migration issues and then running into problems. The fix? A fresh install. It saves time and prevents headaches—do it right from the start instead of relying on cloning.
I told you you'd likely run into problems. Unless you're completely confused, that's not accurate. A fresh setup is the most secure option, which is what I usually suggest. Cloning isn't as risky as you think. It's one of the services I provide.
