Have you encountered USB device sharing across a network before? There are solutions available, but I’m curious about popular options. My scenario involves software protected by a dongle that needs access from anywhere. Ideally, I’d like to keep the dongle on a PC I manage, using VPN for remote connections. I’ve already checked with the vendor—they don’t support network licensing. I’ll be the only user at any time, just for convenience. This isn’t about simultaneous use in multiple locations.

The main goal of dongle security is to enforce the use of this device. There’s likely strong effort to stop people from using it without it. If someone could connect to another machine, they might be able to access it anywhere globally.

It wouldn't function properly. The program is pre-set to verify the USB bus for the key, and if it's connected via a network, it won't appear on the USB bus.

These devices include crypto processing that keeps them active while connected. You can't disconnect them during use without turning off the software. Only one active link is allowed. I need a point-to-point USB over network solution to unlock this feature. The licensing appears sound—one software version works with any instance. They offer virtualization of a local USB port that connects remotely, making it seem seamless. I’m unsure if this works in practice, but I’m curious if others have tried it before. I was hoping to identify available options first.
