Thanks for bringing this up. The response you received covers a lot of the key points. It’s mainly because a DP port can easily send HDMI using a passive cable, while HDMI only outputs HDMI itself. In short, there’s little need for an HDMI port these days except for ease of use. Just remember that this conversion is likely happening at the female DP port, so you shouldn’t use a male-to-male DP cable as an extension (unless you’re sure).
