You might need to keep Windows 8.1 drivers for your monitor, as Windows 10 doesn't support them. Running Windows 10 on your PC won't automatically fix this issue. You may need to update or install the appropriate drivers for your monitor before using Windows 10.
It should be okay; monitors use firmware rather than drivers, and I've never needed to install a monitor driver—just a graphics driver for resolution settings.
In fact, monitors also require drivers. Every piece of hardware needs both firmware and drivers. You can't swap one for the other. Most of the time, the plug-and-play driver from Windows or another OS is sufficient, though sometimes a proprietary driver is necessary to manage certain model-specific features. For example, the Dell P2314H uses BGR subpixel order instead of RGB, which many others don’t. Using the correct Dell driver resolves some unusual problems. Still, you’ll have to experiment. Sometimes the built-in driver in Windows 10 will update and provide a suitable solution, or the 8.1 version might fit. Feel free to check the Windows compatibility center for feedback from other users. If needed, you can revert back to Windows 8.1 and ensure your apps and files are intact after the upgrade. Good luck!
Many displays function perfectly without drivers. All models typically operate smoothly without them. Premium and gaming displays often include additional software for special capabilities. You can locate the appropriate display software on the manufacturer’s website.
