I checked several new laptops and most include the TPM 1.2 chip. While it’s convenient, I still prefer having a USB thumb drive for booting in case my laptop is stolen. Right now I use a non-TPM machine and can easily adjust group policy to enable BitLocker on devices without TPM. If you get a TPM-enabled laptop, it should let you use a USB drive alongside the TPM module for decryption, but it will default to TPM settings unless configured otherwise. For real-world guidance, check Microsoft’s official documentation or community discussions—don’t rely solely on wiki links.
