Total War: Shogun 2 crashing in dx11 (still runs smoothly in dx9)
Total War: Shogun 2 crashing in dx11 (still runs smoothly in dx9)
Hi everyone,
I’m still getting the hang of Tom’s Hardware, so please give me a chance if I break any unwritten rules.
Right now, I’m running Shogun 2 in dx11 and it’s causing some headaches. It works perfectly in dx9, but when I switch to dx11, the dialogue window pops up and the game crashes right away, sending me back to the Steam library page.
I’ve checked my DirectX and graphics drivers, and everything seems up to date. The issue appears to be specific—other games like Overwatch, CS:GO, The Witcher 3, and Dishonored run smoothly. I haven’t been able to play any BioShock titles since buying them a few weeks back. It’s possible Shogun 2 is the culprit, but I’ve heard BioShock can be pretty poorly optimized.
Also, I ran a quick check for game cache integrity and reinstalled everything without mods in the data folder—nothing worked.
Thanks for your time! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Best,

Hi everyone,
I’m still getting used to Tom’s Hardware, so please give me a chance if I break any unwritten rules.
Right now, I’m running into trouble with launching Shogun 2 in dx11—especially when the dialogue window appears. It’s causing a lot of frustration. The game functions perfectly in dx9, but it looks terrible there. In dx11, it crashes right away and sends me back to the Steam library page.
I’ve confirmed my DirectX and graphics drivers are up-to-date, and I’m confident it’s not a general issue since other titles work fine (like Overwatch, CS:GO, The Witcher 3, Dishonored). I haven’t been able to play any BioShock games since buying them a few weeks back. Maybe Shogun 2 is the culprit, but I’ve heard BioShock can be poorly optimized.
Also, I ran a quick check: verified the game cache and reinstalled everything without mods in the data folder—no luck.
Thanks for your time, and I really appreciate any advice!
